We have two aims: for the UK to rapidly transition to 100% renewable energy and for local communities to benefit from this great transition. We achieve our aims by engaging and mobilising grass-roots support across the country and focusing this support on Parliament and the government. Are you great at engaging people and inspiring them to join a cause and take action? If so, then we really want to hear from you! We are looking for a Supporter Recruitment and Engagement Officer who will lead and organise our work to recruit new activists and inspire and enable them to engage with their MPs in support of our campaigns. About the Role You will be responsible for developing, implementing and running our outreach work. Your objective will be to recruit large numbers of individual supporters. You will also be responsible for engaging with existing supporters, keeping them up to date on our campaigns and inspiring them to take action. You will be the one of the key copywriters at Power for People, creating content for social media and our website and composing emails. Supported by our Director, you will catch the eye of our supporters, intrigue new audiences and motivate them to take action on our campaigns. You will take a lead in devising ways (and content) to engage and recruit new audiences online via our social media feeds and our website. Because we are a relatively new organisation you will often be starting with a blank canvass. You will also help develop a picture of our audience and the ways they choose to engage with us, collating data from our website, social media and more. We want you to listen to our supporters - not just talk to them - using this knowledge to improve how we recruit and engage a wider audience and how we can more effectively inspire them to take action. You will work closely with our supporters, getting to know how you can support them in lobbying their MPs. That could be anything from helping to organise an event to making sure they have the right fact sheets and are prepared for a surgery meeting with their MP. You will work alongside our Director to develop our communications strategy and in doing so you will continually learn about Parliamentary and political campaigning. Responsibilities Developing and implementing our supporter recruitment and engagement strategy Creating engaging social media content Creating high quality website content and managing our website Exploring and developing new ways to engage new audiences in our campaigns Assisting activists with interactions with their MPs Organising constituency lobbying events and Parliamentary lobbying events Supporting and enabling our supporters to organise their own local events to promote our campaigns Interacting with MPs and their Parliamentary staff Monitoring and evaluating what works re our supporter engagement strategy Required Skills and Experience Essential Copywriting experience, preferably in a campaigning context, with a lively, clear and inspiring style Experience of managing social media accounts, preferably in a campaigning, marketing or PR context An ability to build and maintain relationships with people and facilitate and inspire them to take campaign actions Strong verbal communication skills including the ability to engage and inspire Demonstrable commitment to tackling climate change Desirable Demonstrable record of success in developing and implementing a supporter recruitment strategy Experience of measuring and evaluating audience engagement on Facebook, Twitter and/or Google (e.g. you are familiar with Google analytics) Experience of using contact details databases (CRM database) Experience of using a website CMS (e.g. Wordpress or Squarespace) Experience of organising Facebook advertising Experience of designing, undertaking and analysing surveys Basic coding skills (e.g. ability to use HTML tags) Experience of working in climate change and political campaigning Experience of organising constituency public meetings Knowledge of Parliamentary processes About Power for People We are a new organisation campaigning for the UK to rapidly transition to 100% renewable energy and for this great transition to benefit local communities. We run grass-roots mobilisation campaigns – we engage and involve citizens and local communities and call on them to lobby their elected representatives for changes in the law or in government policy. We use this approach because it is extremely effective – it was how huge environmental campaign successes, like the campaign for the Climate Change Act to become law, were achieved. At present we are campaigning for a Parliamentary Bill (that we wrote) – the Local Electricity Bill – that would give a huge boost to community-scale renewable energy by reforming energy market rules and empowering local communities to sell locally generated renewable energy to local people. The Bill already has the support of over 100 MPs and we are now looking to ramp up the next phase of our campaign with a grassroots mobilisation effort. We are also campaigning for the government to remove the current planning and funding blocks on onshore wind energy. We are a not-for-profit organisation registered in the UK. Our funding comes from individuals and registered charitable trusts. We were established in August 2017.
