Davidson leader relocates to Sydney to drive NSW operations

ONE of the longest serving members of Davidson’s executive team, Stephen Veness is bringing his expertise to Davidson’s New South Wales office.


Stephen will be continuing in his role as the national Group Manager for Projects & Operations and has taken on the role of Davidson’s NSW State Manager to focus on one of the most buoyant markets and states in Australia.

The State has a staggering budget of slated investments in developing projects in NSW’s infrastructure and transport sectors. This includes development of the ambitious Sydney Metro Project, which will see a number of new train stations and rail lines built and the upgrading of existing services throughout Sydney.


“NSW is in a unique scenario with the number of different and significant projects happening at the same time,” Mr Veness said. “This presents a number of challenges, and opportunities, for our clients in their bid to secure the best talent to deliver these projects across the state.


“Supporting our clients, as they undertake multiple projects across NSW, to attract the best talent is a challenge that we haven’t seen for quite some time and one we feel best placed to take on.


“I wanted to relocate from Brisbane to Sydney with my young family to help support our team to partner with our clients in some of the largest projects currently underway in the country.


“It is a challenge I am excited to be taking on as I believe the Davidson team has a lot to offer to help bring these projects to fruition.”


Stephen has been with Davidson since 2011 where he helped establish the company as a leading recruiter within the Energy, Resources, Infrastructure and Construction & Property sectors. He is also a Director with The Association of Professional Staffing Companies of Australia (APSCo Australia).


“Davidson is an established and well-respected brand throughout Queensland and Victoria and we recognise there is scope for us to do the same in NSW,” he added. “It makes sense that we would drive this from the Projects & Operations desk as this is where all the activity is happening right now.


“In Queensland, we have developed a reputation for delivering high quality work and are retained by our clients due to the level of skill, experience and proven expertise our staff have. We believe our clients in NSW will realise similar value as we continue to adopt this model in the local marketplace.”


Stephen said his focus will be on the booming infrastructure and projects bringing his knowledge of the Davidson business and the broader range of services to the local client base.


“We already have a presence and a wonderful team in NSW and my job will be to further support the great work they are doing to ensure NSW becomes one of Davidson’s most successful states,” he said.


“It is an exciting opportunity for me to draw on the international skills and knowledge I have developed in my 10-plus years in recruitment and seven years with Davidson to continue to offer the highest calibre of services available to clients and candidates alike.


“There is an opportunity in NSW and we have the staff and experience to capitalise on that. It is a big challenge, but one I am excited to be taking it on.”


Stephen’s move to the NSW office coincides with a number of senior executive positions located in the state. The Group Manager for Davidson Corporate Debbie Davis and the Group Marketing Manager Emma Roberts are both located in NSW.
