47% of Australia’s ASX 200-listed CEOs based in Sydney, report finds
Robert Half has published its inaugural Robert Half CEO Tracker, identifying a number of key characteristics shared by CEOs. The study of Australia’s top ASX 200-listed CEOs also revealed the journey to securing a CEO position could be less challenging depending on geographical location. According to the research, NSW has the greatest number of Australia’s ASX 200-listed CEOs with 47% based in the Sydney metro area, followed by Melbourne (27%), Brisbane (9%), Perth (9%) and Adelaide (3%). Only 4% of ASX 200-listed CEOs are based internationally in North America, New Zealand and the UK.
Regardless of location, there are several must-have personal attributes to successfully secure a CEO position. CEOs are generally energetic and passionate yet calm under pressure and always objective, and they also have an aptitude for the type of creative thinking that gives businesses the competitive edge in a fast-paced and innovative business landscape. It’s crucial in one’s career to demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to give direction – without disregarding the opinions of others – especially fellow C-suite professionals - along the way.
